September 28, 2022

You can also get lip balms at organic cosmetics brands, but there is nothing that you can use with satisfaction, so I thought about handmade things. It is a simple recipe just to melt and harden in the microwave. A moist lip balm is completed. All materials are organic, but of course you can substitute them even if they are not organic. We think that you can enjoy the comfort of use that can not be tasted with commercial products.

How To DIY Moisturizing Lip Balm at Home?

Because it is something that touches the mouth, you want to use something safe. We have been using lipsticks made from natural materials for many years now. Although it is easy and simple, we know everyone likes the feeling of moist, soft, and moisturizing use. So this time, We will show you how to make a basic lip balm made with beeswax and vegetable oil.

DIY Lip Balm Material

  • Organic castor oil 2ml

  • Organic Avocado Oil 1.5ml

  • Organic rosehip oil 1ml

  • 2g Organic Shea Butter

  • Organic Unrefined Bead Wax 1.5g

  • Lipstick Case Black (for storage) 1 pc

Steps To Make Your Lip Balm at Home

  • 1. All materials are placed in heat-resistant containers.

  • 2. In the microwave or hot water roast to warm and dissolve the bead wax. (When using the microwave oven, please heat it for about 10 ~ 20 seconds while watching the situation.) When the bead wax has melted, stir with a spoon or the like to mix the ingredients.

  • 3. While warm, transfer to a clean storage container. If it hardens in a heat-resistant container, it is okay to warm it again and melt it again. Anything left over from the heat-resistant container is easy to wipe off while it is warm. When it cools and hardens, it's done.

Ingredients & Materials Needed to Make Moisturizing Lip Balm

There are 3 main ingredients to make lip balm, we will introduce them in detail in order:

Beeswax Recommend

Beeswax is a natural wax component that comes from beehives. It has a mild antibacterial and moisturizing effect, and is used to solidify creams. It also protects the lips and protects them from external irritation and dryness. For beginners, easy-to-handle pellets (grains) are recommended.

What is the difference between refined and unrefined beeswax?

Beeswax is sold in purified and unrefined form. Each has its own characteristics, so let's choose according to the purpose and preference.

Purified beeswax (white)

Natural beeswax collected from beehives is purified to remove impurities, pigments, and fragrances.

It is suitable when you want to color the cream or take advantage of the aroma of essential oils.

Unrefined beeswax (yellow)

Filtration of only impurities (garbage) from natural beeswax.

Since beeswax has retained its unique color and aroma, it is suitable when you want to take advantage of the natural texture.

Vegetable Oil Recommend

Vegetable oil is indispensable for making lip balm. Also called carrier oils, there are various types, but for lip care, vegetable oils that contain many ingredients effective for beauty such as jojoba oil, argan oil, calendula oil are recommended.

Recommended vegetable oils for lip care

Jojoba oil

It is difficult to oxidize and has excellent preservation properties, and is recommended for craft beginners. It can be used for any skin type.

Argan Oil

Rich in vitamin E, effective in preventing skin aging. The moisturizing power is also excellent.

Calendula Oil

It has the function of protecting the skin and mucous membranes, and is recommended for rough lips. You can also make your own. (Reference: How to make calendula oil)

Aroma Oil (Essential Oil)

Aromatic oil is used for fragrance. It is properly called "essential oil", let's use 100% natural and good quality. Some essential oils obtained from plants can help improve dryness and roughness of the lips. However, since the lips are mucous membranes, it is important to use essential oils sparingly (0.5% or less of the total amount). It is safe to avoid strongly irritating items such as lemongrass, eucalyptus and peppermint. Also, beware of essential oils that are phototoxic (bergamot, lemon, lime, grapefruit, etc.).

Recommended essential oils for lip care

Essential oils that are good for beauty are helpful – Less irritating and mild in fragrance: Lavender, benzoin, rosewood, horwood, palmarosa, helichrytham, etc.

※ If you have sensitive skin, it is safe to make it without adding essential oils.

The yellowish lip balm is complete. It is full of nutrition, and even if it is a small amount, it has become a comfortable feeling to moisturize firmly. Lips without sebum and sweat glands are more susceptible to dry air than skin. To be an attractive woman, please use it to make beautiful lips.

How To Use The Homemade Lip Balm?

  • In the morning, for moisturizing power up before applying lipstick.

  • During the day, apply lipstick from the top to cover with your fingertips to create an atmosphere like lip gloss.

  • Even for those who do not usually apply lipstick. This lip balm alone will allow you to enjoy a plump glow.

  • After completion, please store it in a cool, dark place (a cool place away from direct sunlight) and use it for about 3 ~ 4 months.

  • Because it is an all-natural material, it may be soft when the temperature is high and hard when it is low.

Retention period

The shelf life is about 1 to 2 months at room temperature. No preservatives or preservatives are used, so use them up as soon as possible.

Notes:

  • When cleaning up, wipe off the beeswax cream remaining in the heat-resistant container well with kitchen paper etc. before washing. If you wash it off as it is, the beeswax will harden in the drain pipe and cause clogging.

  • Due to the use of beeswax, it should be avoided for use in children under 1 year of age. (Unlike honey, beeswax that is treated at high temperatures is said to have no worries about botulinum bacteria, but for risk avoidance.) )

  • If it does not agree with your skin, discontinue use.
